By freelanceworld

Ok friends, continuing with Hubpages for Dummies A to Z Part 2,

This Part 3 (Advanced) will help you know Hubpages to an advanced level. I will be explaining few important aspects which i hope will help you enjoiy hubpages better. Hope you will enjoy this part too.

HUBPAGES for DUMMIES from A to Z !

Part 3 - ADVANCED LEVEL ( V to Z )

As there are various things, which need to be explained (with basic explanations), i will be referring you to some other hubs and links, which already have explained those issues nicely, helping me prevent this hub getting too long.

( V ) HUB TAGS

Tags are keywords and phrases that describe your Hub. Tags can be important for people using a search engine to find Internet material on topics. They alert the search engines that you have relevant material on the topic described by the tag.Source

For e.g. if you were creating tags for this hub, your tags can be like “Dummies", “How to”, “FAQ” etc. It’s wise to combine words to make phrases such as “HubPages help” "Good content", etc

Tips & Tricks:

  1. On an average, 10-15 tags are appropriate for a hub.
  2. You can add more tags, say 20-25, if your topic of hub is quite general or vast. In such cases, one can even add few misspellings of tags. For e.g. if you hub is on google , tags like "gogle" or gugle" can be used.(Check yourself how many times such misspellings are used for searching, by searching them in google)
  3. Always use related tags only. Unrelated adsense ads, Lower Hub score & Lower SERP are few major problems associated by adding unnecessary & unrelated tags. Further your hub may be labelled "Deceptively Tagged"
  4. Also Google Adsense serves ads on your hubs depending upon tags & content mainly (though its algorithm for showing ads involves many other factors too) . So unrelated tags can show unrelated ads which readers may not click, decreasing you adsense revenue
  5. Search engine traffic to hubs is very dependent on your tags or say keywords. So keeping tags closely related to your content/topic will fetch you good traffic, if that topic is really a searched one.

( W ) HUB SCORE & AUTHOR STATUS

HUB SCORE is the number on 0-100 scale which you see after name of hub or over its thumbnail. It determines the quality of your individual Hubs. Many factors contribute to rating scale of 0 to 100, with 100 being top score.

As per Hubpages FAQ, HubScore takes into account a number of factors, and varies quite a bit from the time a Hub is published as data about its performance continues to stream in.

The most important HubScore components include:

  • Amount of traffic, including percentage from sources other than HubPages
  • The length of the Hub (the more unique writing, generally, the better)
  • The uniqueness of content (copying content already available on the Web will be penalized)
  • The number of thumbs-up votes from unique users
  • The overall quality of the Hubber (author HubScore and Status)

Hubpages also reserves the right to change the factors used to assess a Hub’s HubScore

AUTHOR STATUS is the number on 0-100 scale which you see over your profle picture or thumbnail.

It is determined by a combination of Hubber Score & number of Hubs created. It’s a way of ranking the quality of your Hubs. Following chart shows your status, designated by the various names.

Tips & Tricks:

  1. Write original & useful content to boost your hub score.
  2. Lot of high Hub score hubs will lead to higher author status score which means more reputation and high traffic to hubs.
  3. No "Commercial", "Substandard" , "Overly Promotional" & Duplicate content as will decrease your hub score & your hub will get flagged.
  4. Repeated linking to same website (other than hubpages) >2 times per hub will penalize your hubscore.
  5. If your Hubscore is <40 or your Author status is <75, then all the links in your hubs will be tagged "NO FOLLOW" which simply means no/very little benefit in SERP rankings (Search Engine Result Postion) & thus no/very less traffic.

( X ) URL TRACKERS

URL trackers are referral Trackers to generate impressions and monitor referrals.Everybody has its own 1 default referral tracker. You can create more referral trackers in your Url Tracker panel. USES :

HOW TO USE : There are 2 ways for making url tracker

  1. Just click the "link to this page" on the footer of the page you want to link to, select the tracker & get the referral link. OR
  2. Just insert an underscore & your unique referral tracker (made in Url tracker panel) into the HubPage URL. For e.g., if your url tracker is "checkout" & you want to create a referral tracker link to my hub with URL "http//hubpages.com/hub/hubpages-for-dummies-A-to-Z"., then just insert an underscore, followed by tracker "checkout" into the URL. So tracker ready link will be "http://hubpages.com/_checkout/hub/hubpages-for-dummies-A-to-Z"

Tips & Tricks :

  1. Use referral url trackers for all hubpages link you refer to from your hubs, blogs, websites, emails, forum posts, social networking sites, etc.
  2. Hubpages link can be of any hub, forum topics, etc. This will tell you all about how much traffic/impressions a specific tracker is generating & from where.
  3. Do check the tracker ready link before posting it anywhere to catch any wrongly made link
  4. Don't forget to add underscore sign "_" before your tracker name while making a tracker ready link
  5. Traffic Referrals is guaranteed to be yours for 120 minutes. If someone clicks on your tracker ready link, you are entitled to the traffic referral impressions for next 120 minutes.

( Y ) STATS & GOOGLE ANALYTICS

STATS are a very important to know various aspects of traffic associated with your hubs.

Along with general statistics of various hubs in My Account > Statistics, you can check each hub stats individually too. Stats show page views & traffic sources, time period wise & in form of graphs. Just open your hub & click Stats , just above the hub name.

Another tab in stats is HUB METRICS which is more additional information in the form of-

  • Word Count- The total number of words included in the text & photo captions on that hub.
  • Revenue Potential - A scale of 1 to 5 measuring the approximate earning potential for that hub based on subject & keywords.
  • Incoming Links - A scale of 1 to 5 measuring the quality & quantity of backlinks pointing to that hub.
  • View Duration - A scale of 1 to 5 measuring how much time viewers take to view that hub.
  • First Published - Date when that hub was published first time.

GOOGLE ANALYTICS is another form of stats that you can receive for your Hubs.

It is a free service offered by Google that provides detailed statistics for website owners. With an Analytics account your can view -

  • Unique & repeat visitors to your each hub
  • Location of visitors
  • Originating source of the visitor (what website the visitor clicked off of to get to that Hub)
  • Keyword the visitor searched to find your Hub
  • How long your Hub was looked at & lot more.

( Z ) HUB TRAFFIC

TRAFFIC to their hubs is something all need. Its the only way your hubs will be read. Though it not that easy for get good traffic, its not too difficult either. The following image will help you get quick picture of various factors associated with getting traffic at Hubpages

Hub Traffic Vicious Circle

Some GOLDEN TIPS & TRICKS

which i have learnt on hubpages & hope will benefit you too.

FORMATTING :

If you dont format your hubs aesthetically & reader friendly, all your hard work will not be efficient. Readers will leave the hub unread. The following may help you

1) Presentation

  • Write in paragraphs, if possible. Dont overdo into too small blocks of text.
  • Give proper headings to them (wherever possible) using "Heading" formatting. Dont overdo.
  • Generally, its better to Bullet format, if there are 2-4 options of somthing you are writing about.
  • Generally, its better to Number format, if they are >4 in number.
  • Always keep in mind to place images in close proximity of its related text, esp when right indenting it.
  • Generally, Short sentences, Quick explanations, specifc info work better.
  • Dont feed all your hub text in 2-3 text capsules. Format your text in various ways, using more capsules & incorporate other capsules in between.
  • Hub length can be short or long depending upon the topic's vastness & details provided by you. Anything from 800-1200 words/hub is appropriate but not something engraved in rules.
  • Try formatting the important info as Bold, in a paragraph, in such a way that user can even get the basic info reading thst only. This is for general readers who try to skip through the hub.

2) Adding a link inside a Text Capsule : Instead of using link unit, you may have required many times to do this. Here you need to play with HTML but its easy & fun for newbies too.

  • Within the TEXT Capsule, in which you want to place a link, just Click HTML
  • 2 things are required- Proper HTML code & the web link which you want to place
  • HTML Code for placing web link is <a href="www.abc.com">ABC</a> where www.abc.com is the link you want to place & "ABC" is the text which will appear instead of link(if you want). If "ABC" is not written, link as such will appear in hub.
  • For e.g. <a href="www.hubpages.com/topics">Popular Topics</a> will look like this -> Popular Topics

READER INTERACTION

  • Always try to help the reader interact with hub in some way. Hubpages has already 2 gr8 capsules for that Comments & polls
  • Though comment capsule is mostly used, Polls capsule is not a favourite of many. Just try it with some cool options related to hub.
  • Adding links to hub is a good way to keep readers busy, but do relevant linking only. Overdoing it will lead to reader eventually being lost after reading those.
  • If hubs are Instructional, How to's, Tutorials, do ask for feedback, questions, comments. They are essential.

IDEAL HUBTIVITY

  • Always be polite & humble to fellow to readers & hubbers.
  • Comments & replies in hubs, be it compliments or even contructive criticism should be taken in good sprit. Always remember your worlds speak out loud about yourself.
  • Help Fellow hubbers by advising something good, commenting on hubs or even generating revenue. From the last, i dont mean clicking out revenue ads for them, but to check out any if you feel like reading it.
  • Hubpages Forum is a great place to hang out, interact with fellow hubbers. Forum participation also forms part of Author Status Score. Ask related questions, share experiences, discuss issues & even crack some jokes :P. Enjoy it, esp when not in Hub-Writing Mode :)

PATIENCE

  • Yes, a difficult word to incorporate in daily life for many but sweet in long term.
  • Relating to Hubpages, its the same. One of the keys to be a succesful hubber
  • Success can in be any form here - Getting satisfaction & enjoyment writing your passion or Getting cool revenue or Getting to know & interact with so many gr8 people around.
  • You need to show patience, after following everything in all 3 hubs...bcoz it will take time.

The rel nofollow links don't impact the travel from google TO the hub at all.

Hubs by authors (newbies like me for instance) with a hubscore under 75 can still get google traffic. Two of mine got traffic yesterday (made yesterday).

The rel-nofollow means that links from that hub to other webpages don't count towards those other pages ranking in google. This is meant to discourage people who only come to hubpages to promote their own stuff elsewhere. After all - if the link doesn't count in search engines, then their other stuff doesn't profit.

Thank you for answering my question! I know it may have been unintentional, but you are the only one who had the answer for how to put a referral tracker for people to join Hubpages on my profile page. I couldn't use the 'link' icon because it was grayed out and nothing I tried would make it accessible. I took your advice on "adding a link inside a text capsule," and it worked!

Voted you UP and "useful." Thank you!
